This role has been established to drive the highest standards of software and infrastructure testing across the organisation. The role has accountability for scheduling, establishing, maintaining and continually improving:
- Test environments
- Testing processes and methodologies
- Test tools
This role is also expected to provide testing consultancy services to project managers and IT staff to assist with the development of comprehensive test plans.
Your role will include the following responsibilities: - Develop and maintain a scheduling process for booking use of testing environments.
- Build and maintain testing environments as required to service projects and development needs, including unit, system, integration and UAT.
- Liaise with IT technical services to ensure infrastructure requirements are identified and provided to support testing environments.
- Provide operational support for the various test environments, including parameter setting, batch processing, date changes, reruns, etc.
- Ensure test servers are patched to appropriate levels
- Provide performance and capacity management for test environments
- Support UAT by providing and maintaining environments as required by business UAT teams.
- Develop, publish and maintain testing methodologies and standards
- Evaluate, install, maintain and advise on use of test tools
- Provide expert analysis and consultancy on test plan development, including test strategy, test scenarios and detailed test cases.
- In conjunction with development teams, execute test cases and document results for unit, system and integration testing.
- Document test results in accordance with audit requirements.
- Provide line management for a team of 2 - 5 Testing staff
- Develop a strategic vision for the IT Test Centre and prepare individual proposals for the continued development of testing capabilities.
- Proactively lead and manage the Test Centre team by setting clear direction and strategy.
You should have the following skills and experience:
- Managed a test team (2-5 people) ideally in a financial services company.
- Managed projects to establish test teams including creation of policy and procedures to support testing.
- Have expert skills in at least one test methodology and related tool set
- Track record of working within a structured project environment.
- Experience in a specialist IT software testing role
- Experience with maintaining a calendar of test environment requirements and scheduling the allocation of test environment resources
- Experience with the setup and / or use of software testing tools
- Strong understanding of the Systems Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
- Good understanding of Change Management processes and controls
- Good appreciation of IT Risk management processes and controls
- Retail Banking / transactional systems experience desirable
- Formal Software Testing qualifications (ISTQB, Six Sigma, etc.) an advantage
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and confidence in working with people at all levels, including senior management.
