Unix/VMS Operator & Service Desk Operator - Night Shift - 6 month contract

$30 - 35 (hourly)

A new opportunity exist with our well known client for a Unix/VMS Operator & Service Desk Operator to join their team.

Our client is looking for a Unix/VMS Operator & Service Desk Operator to join them on a contract basis working the night shift to ensure the delivery of high quality services to the broad range of users.

The main responsibilities in this position include:

  • Responsibility for the operational well-being of the computers 
  • Ensuring that services are aligned with the business goals of the organisation
  • Ensure calls not able to be attended to are escalated to the appropriate personnel.
  • Develop and maintain written standards and procedures for maintaining the Operations Group.
  • Perform backups/Restores of the system files when requested by the Operations Group Supervisor and authorised by the Operations Group Manager.
  • Perform various Operating System functions
  • Be responsible for any user problems, via the appropriate user support protocols, for problems relating specifically to mid-range computer systems. 
  • Perform system monitoring as required.
  • Maintain the computer equipment hardware by regular cleaning and vacuuming
  • Ensure the Operations Area is neat and tidy at all times
  • Keep the “Tape Library” up to date and secure the usual day’s backup tapes in the prescribed fashion.
  • Perform hardware installation work if requested by the Operations Group Supervisor and authorised by the Operations Group Manager.
  • Perform miscellaneous operations administration style tasks such as adding new users to the systems, new queue creation, performance and disk management if requested to do so.
  • Ensure a high level of computer security is maintained and kept.
  • Supporting the Service Desk (ideally having previous experience)

UNIX/VMS Computer operations essential

All shifts will be from 21:00hrs to 08:22hrs (including a 30 minute break). The shift pattern will be 4 days rostered on, then 4 days off.
